GT 103

FORD GT Chassis GT 103

GT 103 started its career directly at Le Mans for the 24 hours race where it lasted only 5 hours before retiring. It was then sent to the 12 hours at Reims in Champagne where again it did not finished. After another unsuccesfull attempt at the Nassau speed week GT 103 was handed other to Carol Shelby to be prepared for the 1965 season.
Repainted in Shelby blue with white stripes and fitted with Hallibrand alloy wheels GT 103 along with GT 105 was shipped to the 1st race of the season at Daytona.
For the 1st time a GT 40 not only finished a race but won it. It finished 2nd at Sebring, 3rd at Monza and a DNF at the Nurburgring. That was the end of its career as a work car. At the end of 1965 it was sold to a privateer -William Wonder- who race it to the 70s and beyond when the historic race scene took off. He owned the car for another 20 years and probably still owns it.
