After a disastrous season in 1964 and an encouraging but not successful one in 1965 Ford has to improve significantly in 1966. The first race of the year was The Daytona Continental now upgraded to 24 hours. Carol Shelby couldn't handle all the preparation. In addition of the GT40 program he was racing his own Cobras. He asked Holman & Moody to join the adventure. H&M were racing Ford in the Nascar series and although they didn't have the experience in endurance, they accepted the challenge.
