FORD GT 40 Mk1 Chassis P 1026
1026 is the 2nd GT40 used by the Essex Wire team. It started its career at the 24 hours of Daytona (Retired) then went to race the 12 hours of Sebring where it got its best result : 3rd place (1st in class)
3 more races under the Essex Wire livery at Monza Spa and the Nurburgring ( All DNF )
Sold to viscount Downe and Pat Mc Nally, the car replaced the red stripe first by a dark green one and later a black one. They raced it in late 1966 and all the 1967 season mainly in England. For its last race, the 24 hours of Le Mans, it was repainted light metallic green, the car caught fire in the Hunaudieres and was badly damaged. It had to wait 1977 to be finally restored. It now wears again the Essex Wire livery and is seen from time to time in historic events.
