FORD GT40 Mk1 Chassis P 1078
1078 started its racing career driven by David Piper and M. Salmon for the Strathaven Ltd team with a light metallic green livery. It raced most of the major European races but without much success:
Brands Hatch (11th) Monza (DNF) Nurburgring (14th) Spa (DNF) Le Mans (DNF)
1078 was sold in 1970 to Alain De Cadenet who raced it that year, in a dark blue and orange livery, at the Nurburgring (DNF) Vila Real (DNF) Austria (11th) and the 1000 Km of Paris (7th).
During testing at Silverstone the car was severely crashed. The wreck was sold to a former GT40 mechanic from FAV (Ford Advanced Vehicle). He bought a replacement chassis and rebuilt the car over the next three years using all the parts he was able to salvage from the wreck. When the car was finished he sold it to a private collector. 1078 changed hands a few times and is still in existence today.
