GT 110

Ford GT Chassis GT 110 - project X1-

GT 110 was an experimental project - called X1 - developed by Mc Laren for the new Canam serie. It was entered in the 1965 season without much success. There was in fact 2 experimental chassis built in aluminum for this program. The 1st one was GT 110 and the 2nd one with no number is sometime referred as GT 110A. GT 110 was equipped with a 7 liter engine and was officially called Ford X1 and raced in the Canam 1965 series. For the following season in 1966 Mc Laren sent back the car to Shelby where it was refurbished as a Mk2 but still with a roadster body. Entered at the 1966 12 hours of Sebring it won the race but sadly had to be later scrapped to avoid paying import taxes ( the chassis was made in England). The other chassis GT 110A survived but has never been completed as far as I know.
